So the other morning, around 4am one of my dogs starts barking. Kara and I had a slumber party, which didn't include much slumbering, so I was in her room and we hadn't been asleep that long. So we go out and check whats going on. I figure like always its something is outside. Kara goes back to bed and my OCD kicks in and I start checking everything again. Then I hear something up in the loft. Jack had left for work at 3:30 and I started to wonder if maybe I was dreaming that he left so I call for him, I get no response.
I hear the noise again and call Kara. We stand in the hall at the bottom of the steps listening. I was looking outside and saw a bat flying back and fourth in front of the window on the deck. As I'm looking I realize I am not looking at a bat outside but INSIDE. I say to Kara, Its a bat!!!!!! She says no it was a big moth. And she thought it was white and in the kitchen. I go to get something to hit it with and she yells, no its a bat!!!! We run into her room, Tanner starts screaming because he doesn't know what is going on and he runs into Karas room.
I call Jack to get back home and we commence trying to figure out who is going to go and get the dogs. I am praying Kara and tanner agree too...and they do...so they cover themselves with blankets and run out to get the dogs. Tanner comes in with the 2 littles one hanging upside down,..it was so funny. Katie, the bigger one decides she doesn't want to come in the room. So Kara had to grab her as she went to take off into the living room.
Jack came home, hit the bat with Tanners BB gun and they found it on the floor in the kitchen. Now to figure out HOW it got in.
Well today I found a spot over the front window by the front door that was missing a piece of log. I look on the window ledge and it is covered with what looks like tiny bird poop. Then I look on the ground and find a pile of bat poop.
So now we know where they are going but still cant figure out how they are getting into the house. All I can figure out is there is a way from there to the fireplace which is only about 5' away from the window. So tonight Jack will be putting up a screen so no more can get in. From what we've read they can get out but not in. We wait a week then seal it up.
If anyone has another other ideas please let me know.
So that is my bat story. I sure wish I wasn't such a chicken but I come by it honestly. My dad told me once after they just got married there was a mouse in their house. Both he and my mom jumped on the bed and called my grandpa to come over and get it. I would have loved to have seen it.
Then another time there was a rat in my grandmas house, my grandpa was gone, so my uncle, who was a very BIG guy, called his MOM to come and get it. She stabbed it with a fork. I get a kick out of these big guys being so afraid, especially my uncle. He was just so big and I would have never thought he would be afraid of anything. He was a great uncle though and I'm sure was there to greet Ryan.
Time to get some work done here. Kara and I got Ryan's room together so now we have to find a place to put all the stuff that was being stored in there...we need another house just for all our stuff...I admit most of it is mine but I cant bring myself to part with any of my kids things..especially now.
Hope y'all are having a good day.
