I have rarely been so sad.
Our country is lost.
My father's parents came here from Italy and Ireland. They were poor.
There was discrimination, but there was opportunity.
My mother's mother was left a widow, a widow with 5 daughters, in
1915. They were poor. The girls had to leave school early to go to
work to help support the family.
My grandparents worked hard to create a good life and opportunity for
their children.
My parents worked hard in their turn to provide their 5 children with
opportunity.
My parents lived with their 5 children in a three bedroom apartment in
a housing project in the Bronx until they could save enough money to
buy a house in the suburbs.
All 5 of us were expected to work hard and to succeed.
We all did.
And we all hold those values.
But those values are now gone forever.
The grand experiment is finished, the land of opportunity is no more,
the great nation is lost.
My parents expected us to do better.
When I went to work I heard men say "if it was good enough for me, it
is good enough for my son."
It was shocking to me, alien to the values of my people.
But they have won. Those jealous selfish grasping little men and women have won.
I understand that there are some who are ignorant. They are not
willing to learn.
I understand that there are some who are stupid. They are simply not capable.
I understand that there are some who are evil.
The ignorant, the stupid, and the evil have stolen what should have
been our grandchildren's birthright from them.
Don't deceive yourselves, it's over and gone.
The demographics only get worse.
It's done.
I weep.
