Is there a benifit to doing alot of reps as opposed to doing 3 sets of 12 with increased wt. I feel like I get a better workout say with squats or calf raises if I get a comfortable weight an max out to exaustion of the muscle...anyone have a theory?

Smoke, There is a great deal of material on this question. I know a great deal about this, in theory. The best single place I have found on the web is EXRX. www.exrx.netI'll post some other good sites. I am at the wrong computer right now. And then you mention the calf, which is almost in its own category. General principle: Anything over 15 reps is pretty much endurance rather than strength or muscle building. Really good book IMO is "Brawn". The Bill Pearl book, "Getting Stronger", is good too. Don't forget, though, most of these plans use pictures of young men who, as freaks of nature (I was one once), can have pretty dramatic results. The plans work for everyone, and the results can be measured in strength, but the results are damn hard to see in the mirror. Good for you, fish

De nada, Smoke. I have not been at EXRX for some time. I find that they now include many more cable exercises that seemed designed for a machine like yours. Again, this is the best single site I have found on the web. Roam around this page for all sorts of exercises with descriptions of muscles involved etc. www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.htmlfish
