anyone know of anything that works better than deet in keeping them off you? I know about the long pants, etc...we take all precautions and we are still getting them...yuck! Tanner got bit by one. Had to take him it for because the head got stuck in his arm.
That leads me to another question. Good way to take them off? Pulling, slowly, didnt work, putting a match on it, didnt work, cotton ball soaked in hand soap, didnt work...anything I'm missing???
I hate ticks...I feel like I'm just crawling with them!!! Oh as if the ticks werent enough...I was watching TV and noticed a spider, a big spider, crawling across my bed...guess who didnt sleep well last night.
Hope ya'll are doing well. No workouts for me but lots, and lots of yard work...and house work...windows...I hate washing windows.

Ticks are really bad this year. Ken has had a few in him and I don't know how many I've taken off the kats. My personal opinion is pull them. I have a tweezer that has 2 points on the top and one on the bottom...sort of makes a clamp, get down as close to the head and grab on and pull it out. Whiskers had 3 on him last night, one big one and 2 smaller ones..one of the small ones was on his eyelid...don't ask how I did it but I did manage to get it off, the other small one was on his cheek...couldn't get it, have to check it tonight....btw...he's suchh a goood boyyy! he sat nice and still for me. They have stuff for the yard that you can spread around to help kill the ticks and fleas, I just did around the house before I checken in. I'm interested too if anyone has any magic cures. I had the katz on frontline but whiskers had a bad reaction to it the other month...going to try to get garlic pills in him....friend of mine said it worked for her dogs. anyone know of anything that works better than deet in keeping them off you? a tick-lish question. (Boooo !) we use hartz 3 in 1 flea and tick drops. works, although the ticks attach but then die. different kinds depending on weight of animal. i'm not happy about spreading poison on the animals, but i spread it on myself to avoid the mosquitoes. it's a lesser of two evils kind of thing. as for us humans, i have a colleague whose life has been seriously diminished by lyme disease. there is a plastic spoon thingie with a grove in the end of the bowl that works better than anything else we have tried to remove tics, and we have tried everything. www.biosci.ohio-state.edu/~acarolog/needham/tickgone.htmit would be hard for me to overstate the lyme disease effect on my colleague. please take this most seriously. learn how to identify the carrier, and if there is even a question, get the blood test. the disease can be treated most successfully in the early stages. just got a yard of loam. because of the weight my little truck could only carry a half yard at a time, and even than we were riding up hill all the way home both times. we've got this tiny truck (ranger 4 cylinder - 30 mpg) we use pretty often to lug stuff. comes in handy to transport the boats too. yakima makes 300 lb capacity truck racks for 1/3 the price of TracRacks. we watch all these other folks driving by in ford 150s that obviously have never been used for any kind of work. people are silly. oh, and Pam, don't forget, spiders eat tics. so do chickens, by the way. there are folks in maine who are getting chickens to get rid of tics. of course, they are now getting redtailed hawks, too.

Sue what is the stuff that you put around the yard? Ive never heard of anything like that. I know we cant treat the entire yard but it would be nice to get it down on parts of it.
Spiders eat ticks, of course. I hate both.

I think Ortho puts it out, you spread it like you would lawn fertilizer and then water it.( or do it just before it rains)...I'll have to check the bag for the exact name. Check in the bug section of Walmart/Home Depot...any lawn care place should have it.
