Here's a glaring fact that jumped off the page when I was reviewing my bench press progress and trying to see why my bench has gone down while my squats and deads have shown some progress. My latest theory is that I'm not using enough weight on speed days. When I went back through my logs that's the only constant that's changed...........I lowered my weight on speed day and my core bench lifts went down. I'm going to keep adding 5#'s per week as long as I can keep my speed up and see if there is a correlation between these two lifts.
Speed BB bench press( 2 med. and 1 wide grip)--9x3x120 + 60#'s chain;
Close grip bench press--2x10x120,130; 1x9x140 + 60#'s chain;
One arm DB extension--1x6x30,35,40; 1x5x45; 1x6x40;
Seated DB cleans--4x12x25;
Seated cable rows(wide grip)--1x10x120,140,150,160,170,180;
Rear delt raise--4x12x25;
Cuff work(shoulder horn)--3x15x10.

I hate to be the barer of bad news Jack but do you think it may have anything at all to do with the fact that you are, as you know, aging, and that maybe the bones in your upper body are deteriorating faster than your lower body? Ya gotta love me dont you? I'm just kidding!!! ;D I hope that works for you, thats why its nice to keep logs...and keep up with them. Hey I have to take all this working out on somebody. :)The nats are TERRIBLE out there this morning. I'm glad I didnt eat breakfast before I went out to lay the sod because I had a breakfast of nats. Yuck yuck yuck Ok back to work...be good today.

Pam,i considered your aging theory and it's valid but I believe the lower half goes first . In fact I keep it handy in case I need a good excuse . Gnats should be a good source of protein but you need some carbs. What you need is somebody to bring you breakfast. Give me good day's work today.

Ok I'm typing "nat" thinking, I know darn well thats wrong but I had a biggest brain fart ever. I couldnt think of how to spell the darn word and was too lazy for spell check. Thanks for making me look like an idiot. The lower half goes first? I'm so sorry Jack. Ok thats all I'm going to say about that. But know that I could say a whole lot more!

Don't you dare say anything more . You know how fragile that male ego can be . As far as the spelling goes I'm hooked on "fonics" myself . You know what today is don't you...........ME squats,eat your heart out . We'll see about the lower half .

My lips are sealed. Today is upperbody for me again, filling in the trench, digging yet another one (dam n electrical inspectors!) raking, swinging a sledge hammer...I guess I did get some lowerbody in with rolling the sod onto the cat thingy...gosh darn it, I cant believe I cant think of the name of that darn thing again!...does any of that count? Think before you answer that one Jack, your life just may depend upon it. Ok time to go and get eated by the GNATS...got it right this time. Here's to hoping your lowerbody is everything you want it to be.

Pam the cat thingy you're talking about is technically a skid steer loader but they're usually called bobcats because that's the designation name the Melrose Company hung on that paricular piece of equipment. Since it's proved to be so popular "bobcat" has transcended product lines and usually every skid steer loader regardless of brand is called a "bobcat". Just thought you would want to know . We'll give you credit for a workout with all that effort you've put into your consruction work. Actually we'll give you extra credit because it's the practical application of your strength gains. You've done well. I'm not touching that last one . I just might get embarrassed .

Thank you for the history lesson. I get extra credit huh? Hey ya gotta love that! I am taking a break now but in about 10 minutes I need to go out and lay the sod back down over the trench, its a mess back there! Come on Jack, touch the last line....I dare you.

Pam,you know me,I'm always up for a challenge but you may have me on this one. I'm still trying to figure out a snappy comeback that will delicately and discreetly address this "touchy" subject . I guess the best I can do is to say is everything in the eye of the beholder. That's the best I can politely do, "you got me" .
