My nutritionist challenged me to a jumping jack contest. She's up to 75 in a row without stopping. I figure easy Peezy I can do that no problem.....Note to self: do not do jumping jacks without a sports bra on. The girls were not happy Got to 30 before I absolutely had to stop, and not because I was tired. Live and learn they say, live and learn.

So what has anyone else found on calories burned for jumping jacks??.. Looks like we have a calorie advantage over Fish Pam! lol
Doing one jumping jack is the opposite of eating one potato chip. On its own, it won't make much difference. But if you do it regularly over time, the accumulated effects can be surprising.
Basic Calorie Burn Fitness coach Ben Cohn classifies jumping jacks as a low-impact aerobic. It raises heart rate and moves the limbs without putting too much strain on any given body part. An average-sized person burns about 352 calories in one hour of low-impact aerobics, at 1/2 second per jumping jack, that works out to just under three calories per jack.
Your body weight plays a role in how many calories you burn in any activity. A 200-pound person burns nearly four calories per jumping jack, while a 130-pound person burns only 2 1/2.

I moved our posts I was stupid and posted in the wrong place. We'll leave the other thread for our Monday postings.
Well only once today so far. My sports bra is not something I'd choose to wear unless necessary so it involves a little more lol been busy today and off to baseball. I'll probably jump more when I get home.

i'm a little confused about the posts, but that said...
obviously the variables in J-Jacks are great.
tough to have apples to apples unless people are doing them same place same time.
i mentioned the distance for feet apart.
key.
as for the expert, low impact my butt !!! yeah, well, maybe, but maybe not.
some folks skip rope with just enough loft to get the rope under and through, some folks skip a lot higher. it is not the same.
the rule applies to J-Jacks too.
i've done a lot of them. any boy who played football has done a lot of j-jacks. we did 'em feet sideways and then feet fore and aft, spinning, etc. there are a number of variations.
great exercise, but ...
you should condition yourselves to this exercise (as you should with any new exercise) before you get to high numbers.
think about it.
one has hips, knees, and ankles being stressed at unusual angles.
and i'll bet you may be as limited by the burn in your shoulders as anything else at the start.
thank goodness.
be careful, ladies, i don't think this is as innocuous as it may seem.

I agree jj are not for the most part low impact. Sue if you want a calorie burn what about using calisthenics on fp? Might be the medium you're looking for.
