I was actually writing to Pam but I think I want Fish's opinion here as well.

So q for you..How do we change things? I keep bitching about the meals my Mom gets from the county..now I know it's not an easy juggle with finances, likes and dislikes but!... They keep sending the "Veggie nuggets"..they are disgusting! So I said something to the gal that runs it yesterday when I was over at the office...she says "Oh but they LOVE them!" I like ice cream but it's not all that good for me. Shouldn't they be more concerned about nutritional value rather than Oh the love them? And ya wonder why were such a sick nation.

I was on an exausting rant yesterday at my alz meeting, between the above and then we got on the discussion of drugs for alz. Namenda & aricept are both common alz drugs that claim to help with early stages and should only be taken for a couple years...My Mom was on them for like 8-9 years!!! Why? When we took her off of them she was better than with them. Drugs are supposed to be regulated aren't they? Whay aren't they regulated for how long your on them?? $$$$ I know., I know.

Just pisses me off!

nc dau came to visit. i have lots of questions and continuing concerns, but i have to wait a while.

DSM 5 is coming out and it is just plain bad.

I agree that we have to monitor all drugs prescribed by anyone for our loved ones or for us. The internet and the support groups make this somewhat possible. Then the trick is to call the attention of those who are supposed to know and who are writing the scripts to what they never knew or forgot, without making them angry, since they are still working with us or ours, and we want them to like us and ours, lest they consciously or unconsciously make a mistake.

not easy, but if they know you are knowledgeable and that you are watching, they are more careful.

i had a hissy at the dr's today, even though i am supposed to know better. staff running me through an idiot protocol but unable to answer "why are we doing this?"

it is just not easy. in fact, it's very difficult.

I hope the healing with NC & Susan comes quickly, I think they are lucky to have a good support team.

The "They" she was referring to were the seniors that come to the center for lunch. It isn't always about what we like..if that were the case my house would be full of Kettle chips. There needs to be a happy medium and they seem to miss the point somehow.

As for the drugs & Doc's..the $$ they get paid I shouldn't have to watch out for them..but their "kickbacks" are much more important to them than our health. Lets see how many people we can get in & out of here...there aren't too many that think otherwise.
