Brought Kara back to school So happy for all she has ahead of her and so proud of the absolutely amazing young woman she has become. Was so worried she would never find her way back to God after Ryan was killed, now she is helping me to find him. Had our first confirmation meeting for Tanner last night. I can't walk into a church without crying. It is driving me crazy, I just don't understand... I am going to miss that girl so damn much....

Those first days are hard. Tell her to take a picture, in the same place every year. It's fun looking back at how much they grow and change.
Coming out of my funk, thankfully. Hate that place.
Tanner has discovered the joys of PSEO, no it's not the free college education, it's only having college classes Tuesdays and Thursdays so he can sleep in mon, wed and Friday.
He's taking a nutrition class, just bugs the crap out of me with all the current research that's out they still teach the same old crap, the standard American diet, so aptly called the SAD diet. Told him, learn what they teach for the class then dump it all and remember everything I have taught him. Apparently flavored water is now healthy.

Yeah I'm proud of him. He does miss being in hs all day. Misses his friends. He's not sure he wants to do next year and I'm torn between pushing him to do it or just letting him decide. Its free college he could get a whole year in by the time he graduates
Any advice?

Let him decide but push gently.
Kidz should have structure but We grow up waaay too fast, let him enjoy being a kid too.

www.break.com/article/teacher-wears-same-yearbook-photo-outfit-40-years-in-a-row-2482695whether he knows it or not, he is working for a living right now. what makes it hard to understand is that his pay for his work today is being withheld until after his school years. the harder and more effectively he works now, the greater his reward will be throughout his lifetime. his entire lifetime. a student should work a 45 hour week at least, two hours outside study for every 1 classroom hour. in law school it was more like four to one. i agree with Smoke to the extent that we should find some way to convince kids to not see structure as a rigid, imprisoning concept, but rather as the way to manage their time so that they have the time to do as much of all they want to do as is possible.

"the harder and more effectively he works now, the greater his reward will be throughout his lifetime."
Oh fish, I started teaching my kids that at a young...I know it stuck with the first two, the third one, well I'm not so sure. To be fair part of his thinking/reasoning has been greatly affected by his brothers accident.
Live for today....we, we being all of us, are painfully aware that tomorrow isn't promised to us.
I try very hard to try to balance that way of thinking with the reality of what happened to Ryan being, hmmmm, can't think of the words I want to use...well that he, Tan, will mostly likely be here a long long time, so he has to think of his future. I am saying that so much better in my head, it's just not making it to this message.
Hard to convince someone of something you don't totally believe....
On a brighter note he told me today he is leaning more towards doing this again next year, not by much lol but last week he was definitely not going to. I'm sure his mind will change 100 times between now and then.
