So Dad had a Dr. Appt today, regular 6 mo. check. Dr. has been on him forever about his sugar. A1C was 9.8. He's already on 20 units of insulin / day. He is complaining of being tired all the time ( so was I but alot of his is sugar related) Doc says 2 options he can start to eat better, get exercise..even suggested PT or do nothing!...Dad opted for do nothing!
Pam it's going to be a long hard road here together.
I told him there is a physical therapy place right in town, he could at least get some exercises for his knees so he can get more mobil.
He says I may not even live another year..kinda why bother!
I'm pissed and now worried about my Dad. Mom was cake compared to what I think I'm going to be up against.

as i get older, i seem to understand more and more the despair of later life.
is there some way to trick him into doing what you want him to do ?
let's take a walk and look at the spring flowers.
come over for dinner.
take care of yourself for my sake,if not for your own.
mom would not want you to be like this.
that sort of thing.
i would bet the ranch that you have already tried all this, but other than being creative and trying over and over, what can you do ?
just be sure to take care of yourself, and don't get exhausted.
we will keep praying, you keep trying, and just maybe.

Thx Fish. Yes all that is in the works... Somehow. I'm trying to ne sensitive and not push too hard right now because he is trying to find his way without mom but sitting around doing nothing isn't it. It's tough because at almost 80 years old he is pretty set in his ways. Simple things like backing off on " diet my dee" YAK!!! Would be a start. He goes through nutra sweet like candy.
I'm looking through Terry Wahls new book. Even if he would adapt a few things it would help. Can lead a horse....

Dads are tough. My dad is going through the same thing. Dr. came right out and told him your cookies are killing you but he still in those damn cookies. I just don't understand I guess. If someone told me I couldn't have cookies for the rest of my life because they are killing me there's no way in hell I'd ever touch another cookie for the rest my life.
I don't know that's there is anything at all that I can do anymore.
Problem is Sue we can't care more than they do because if they don't care not to do anything.
