the trip was better than expected because it was every bit as good as their advertising said it would be.
three couples went. we have known each other for ten years or so, and have traveled together in europe before in a larger group to sing latin masses in ancient cathedrals.
this time the six of us traveled with Viking River Cruises from budapest to amsterdam in two weeks.
the food was very good to excellent,
the bottomless bottles and kegs of local wines and beers served at lunch and dinner were excellent,
all service was excellent,
the ratio of personnel to passenger was about 1 to 1
the entire boat was as neat and clean as it could be, to the extent that our cabins were cleaned more than once a day
every tour was broken into small groups, each group had a guides, each with a sending device that sent to the fewer that 20 people in each group.
there were lectures,
there was entertainment,
did learn that at least on this trip australians are wild people compared to americans. noisy, rowdy fun lovers.
i can go on and on about the entire experience.
on day one we 6 took an airport transport bus from NH and arrived Boston airport at which point B realizes that he does not have his passport.
when we were at logan airport wondering what to do about B's passport situation, i suggested that he call Viking because they might have a protocol for such situations and might be able to help out. they connected him with their man on the boat, and from the boat in europe for the next two days in addition to his regular duties their man walked B through the entire process from the us airport until B arrived at the boat. this included flights, hotels, and land transportation since the boat had embarked from budapest. B's additional expenses were kept to a minimum.
the entire trip was simply excellent, and well worth the money.
we even got good weather.
suffice it to say that we intend to go again.
