So once again on Friday night, just before dark I hear someone yell outside, I look out the side window and there is a guy walking through my yard! I go to the front door and holler at him, "Your looking to get shot!".....oh, I'm looking for some friends...well they aren't here..GET OUT! Dude parks in my driveway, walks around the side of the house where there is no door. I go out and grab the keys out of my car ( PIA ) then this other young guy comes walking out and says Oh, I thought we had a quiet community here?, I've been coming up here for..blah, blah, blah, my grandfather built the cabin. Says he gave his friend the wrong house #.
Well his friend had no business walking around the backside of my house...I have an obvious door in the front and also on the side that where he parked. He also could have identified himself and also who he was looking for.
They still didn't find the gut that shot the cops by me so everyone is still a bit on edge. I said that to this guy and he says well my friend doesn't even fit the description of the guy they were looking for...I never said I thought he did...all I knew was there was someone I didn't know walking in my yard hollering...thats all.
Hate to say it but it's almost time to get my carrying permit.

as you may remember, because of death threats by a schizophrenic i have done a lot of research on these issues.
what you should have now is a 410 or a 20 gauge shotgun. don't need more than that do accomplish your goal, and 12s jump around when discharged. 16s are hard to find.
must have a safe haven - usually bathroom - with a firearm and ammunition close to the door so you can get it on your way in.
should have cell phone on person at all times.
get firearm and ammunition on way to safe haven.
go to safe haven
lock door.
call 911.
if intruder tries door after your verbal warnings,
shoot and keep shooting.
oh, if you are seriously thinking and want to know about pistols and revolvers, just ask.

Thx Fish, I grew up around guns, 12G is by the bed now. I do have a 410 but it's only a single shot...I'm not a bad shot but more than 1 is helpful. Sucks cause I'm in a pretty quiet area, annoys me that I should lock my doors or take my keys out of my truck...whatever happened to Mayberry?

They really need to catch this guy...it's getting annoying if nothing else.
Got a call yesterday from my neighbor saying that there was about 15 cop cars and swat 2 doors down from my house! Had detectives there checking houses on Sunday, then Monday they were in again and found the door open in this place. ( it's in forclosure and has been empty for awhile) Guy that use to live there came and said he had chipped up the trim on the front door when they were moving stuff out...they thought that it looked like it had been pryed open. Personally I think it was from when he left and the door has been unlocked for awhile now.
Then to top it off, I guess when the call first came through the swat guys had the wrong addy...ended up going INTO my brothers house, his girlfriends youngest was home (18) came out of his room to find 4 swat guys in full gear with guns at the ready! scared the crap out of him. I told my Brother I doubt there is anything that he can do legally because it's probably got a loophole of extenuating circumstances or something so it was just fine that these thugs walked right into the kitchen.
Never a dull moment these days. Not riding bike for the obvious.

very important.
it is very important that your brother go to the media and maybe a lawyer will come to him.
people there are understandably on edge.
many are appropriately armed.
cops break into wrong place.
home occupier comes out armed.
home occupier is dead.
cops need pressure from media and possibly lawyer to be sure before they go in.
it's big.

He said he was going to call his lawyer and see what he says.
I get the "element of surprise" thing but geezzz make sure you have the right house first.
They were supposed to be responding to an unoccupied house...there were 2 cars in the drive and stuff on the poorch, looked far from unoccupied.

forgive me if i say someone is a fool.
as for you, you are not a fool.
get in touch with your local police chief for a sit down.
tell the chief what happened to your brother.
tell the chief you want to make sure it doesn't happen to you because you have guns, they have guns, and someone may get killed.
tell the chief your address, and discuss plans for a response to your area and to your address.
if you are not satisfied by your meeting with the chief, call the media who would just love a story like that in a climate of fear like yours.
