Well I almost didnt get this in but I just couldnt let myself get behind. I didnt start this until after 8 and only got in 40 minutes but I got it in. Supps: 2 grams L-Carnitine/ Amp (boy will I pay for this as I try to sleep tonight)/ Albuterol inhaler-asthma got really bad about 5 minutes into - couldnt take a deep breath...a very claustrophic feeling Cardio - 40 minutes pretty much steady state...played around with the incline but stayed between 3 and 3.5 mph. My heart rate was between 150-155 the entire workout. I decided that you guys were right...no you wont hear me say that often I'm only going to do interval training 3 times a week and something else the other 2 days. Thats it...time to get the kids to bed and me...well I'll be up for quite a while yet.

This one is paraphrased so bear with me.........."Every monrning in Africa when the sun comes up the gazelle has to outrun the hungry lion or be eaten. Every morning the lion has to outrun the gazelle or starve to death. It doesn't matter what you are, when the sum comes up you better be running!!!!" Good choice on the schedule and no you'll never hear me say I told you so . Amp vs. Sobe.............what's the verdict. Neither has an affect on my sleep but then again I can go to sleep on cue . Do you still get the BFS motivational quotes in e-mail. Mine stopped about 2 weeks ago and I've got to go their site to find them.

I still like SoBe, I think AMP is mostly sugar...not much of anything else in there from what I can see. I think I am too old to do intervals that much. I shouldnt have to either. I should be able to workout hard, without killing myself, and still lose. Some of the stuff they've asked me to do...well Ryan cant keep up with it. I dont think it should have to be like that. Anyway, not sure about the BFS quotes, I dont think I have been..tells you how much I pay attention Ok time to hit the treadmill.

To Old,no way, but I agree with your assesment on that type of training. It's one that will totally burn you out and in my opinion only has value for short intervals. Watch out for those lions .

Pam,
Are you talking HIIT ?
If so, I don't like it unless I am running hills.
I find it to be psychologically and physically exhausting without commensurate benefit.
I do like speed play or fartlek, although too many try to take the play out of it and reduce the concept to simple intervals.
Have you tried the waves ? It should be a part of any speed work to go slow for as long as it takes to get your heart rate back down to cruising bpm.
Thus the fast run is limited to the time/distance it takes to get the heart rate up, and the slow run is extended to the time/distance it takes to let the heart rate down.
Another benefit here is that if you notice that it taking longer for your heart rate to go down, it is a clear indication that you are over stressed, over trained, ill, etc.
The fat burn analysis of HIIT may be correct, but a cost benefit analysis has to be considered.
I think no pain no gain often results in no exercise.
Oh, if you’re not talking HIIT, nevermind.
peace,
fish

I liked that last sentence "Oh if you're not talking HIIT, nevermind." Yep, I was/am talking HIIT. For me, if doing HIIT helps me lose fat, then its worth everything. I have however come to the conclusion that trying to do it everytime was just stupid. I need days that I can just go at a steady pace...like last night. My heart rate was still up in the zone but it was more...well...relaxing...can you call sweating and breathing hard relaxing? No boys, I am not talking about sex there. I have tried the wave fish and have found that it is taking me less time to recover I was 30 minutes into a HIIT session...barely breathing when my kids' school called not too long ago..in less than a minute I was breathing normal...way cool to see those kinds of changes. My breathing and recovery does seem to be affected by my asthma a lot...recovery takes longer obviously when its acting up. Last night it was worse than its been in a very very long time...I probably should have stopped working out but my inhaler cleared things right up. Watching for the lions Jack...the one I'm most concerned about is leaving in two days!!!! I can feel the weight being lifted already! Party is at my house guys!
