i have spend a good deal of time and effort trying to figure that out.

one man's opinion = re-read Lord of the Flies, and then re-re-read it.

i have come to believe that modern man is the product of the evolutionary process, although there are so many holes in the theory of evolution that even that may be cogently argued.

evolution takes place over long periods of time, even if one subscribes to the catastrophic event theory, it still takes a long time.

human beings are as essentially savage as ever they were.

we have no more changed as savages than we have changed the number of fingers on our hands.

well, feet is another story, but opposing thumbs on hands and feet is an interesting study.

anyway we are all in denial about this because we all desperately want to believe in the perfectibility of man generally, and of individuals (us) particularly.

hasn't worked, doesn't work, won't work.

and this idiot is squawking about small arms control at home at the same time he is allowing the terrorists everywhere to get real weapons of mass destruction.

we're done.

it's only a matter of time. possibly within my lifetime, and i'm an old man.

in the cosmic scheme of things, just another catastrophic evolution event.

and the world will keep spinning along.
