by changing the seat height on the ad all the angles of attack change too, thus addressing the machine problem, at least a little.

move a bunch of wood. pulling the scoop over the snow the first couple of times, before it gets packed down, takes some effort.

I thought I posted this yesterday... Do you buy split wood? Neighbor gets tandem log lengths. Was ok when I was younger but I’ll take kero or fuel oil.

we buy 16" cut and split. the difference in cost between tree length logs and cut/split firewood is not enough to make it worth it.
i cut and split a lot of logs when i was young. of course, i cut with the chain saw.
as for splitting... i have used power splitters, and learned a lot.
one either has to own a splitter, or have lots of friends who are willing to work. you lose money with a rented splitter unless you have a crew.
two men can't get value out of a rented splitter. one man at the splitter, the other carrying in the cut unsplit logs and clearing the split wood. makes a huge mess, split wood all over the place. more work.
i have split a lot of logs with a maul too.
It is good exercise, and kind of fun, but 3 - 4 cord is a lot of wood.
