they say that she is ok.
i, on the other hand, am worried almost to death.
keep the faith, Pam, and after you get some good news, remind me to tell you about my conversation of today with a professional collegue about his near death experience with the doctors who said there was nothing wrong with his gall bladder.
in the meantime, i know that you will stay in control of the leeches.
please be sure to list and search your symptoms on the net.
please be sure to search and confirm everything the medical pros say before you let them touch you.
be strong, Pam, and keep fighting,

Thanks fish. I believe I am now fully equipped to remove my own thyroid. I have researched my research. Unfortunately they could not confirm from the biopsy if it was in fact cancer or not. I read that is not uncommon. So the next step is to remove the nodule, which basically involved removing 1/2 my thyroid. At that time they will have pathologists there to look at it and determine if it is or is not cancer. There are 3 ways that can go...
1) They determine it is and remove the rest of it including surrounding cells, lymph nodes.
2) They can not determine if it is cancer at which point they sew me up, wait 2 weeks while it "grows" and if they find it is they reopen me and remove the rest and if its not, well then I am good to go.
3)They determine its not cancer (this is the only one that I have accepted in my mind) and they sew me up.
I have a 60/40 chance of it being cancer (60% that it may be). I feel lucky so I'm siding with th 40%.
The big question, is this what has been causing my problems in losing weight. On one hand I hope it is, on the other I hope not. If it is that means that I may have had this for 7 years now.
I'm not going to try to guess and neither is the doctor. I did talk to my kids pediatrician. He is the most wonderful man, he surly has a space in heaven waiting for him. I wish he was my doctor as I have never met a doctor who cares so much about his patients...to him they are not just patients.
He took the time to call me this morning and we talked about what has been going on. He said the surgeon is superb and he would let him perform surgery anytime on him. He told me that I was in good hands.
As far as Nancy is concerned if you feel there is something more I'm sure you already know to pursue it. Unfortunately most doctors dont care enough and we have to be our own doctor. You (or she) knows her body best.
Please keep us posted on how she is doing and thanks fish.

I'm confused on #3...If it's not cancer they opend you up and took out 1/2 of a healthy organ for nothing?

Well its not really healthy. The biopsy showed the nodule contained suspicious cells...pre cancerous??? I dont know. Either way in the future it could turn into cancer or become a problem if it grows too big. I'd rather error on the side of caution and remove whats not good before anything spreads. Just heard from the surgeons office and I am not scheduled until September 10. Of course thats the second week of school for the kids so now I have a whole other set of issues to deal with here. At least its never dull around here
