All,
If you get an ice dam on the roof that threatens water damage, fill panty hose (I double the legs to a single) with calcium chloride ice melt product, tie of the end, and put the tube across the dam. Melts a channel so the water can drain.
Do not use salt which will damage house and kill plants.
If you put it up before the storm, better.
If after the storm, and/or if no ladder, tie a rope to the knotted end of the tube and swing the thing into place. If you miss, you can try again. Once up, just leave it there.
Oh and to justify posting such info here, all of this is really good exercise and weight reducing too ...
But if you ever have have or have ever had water running down the inside walls of your house, you'll thank me and whoever first posted this on the web.
Happy winter,
fish
