So this time it's my Brother.
Keep him in your prayers.
They thought he had walking Pneumonia, was on antibiotics for about 2 weeks then the decide to do blood work and find his blood sugar was over 400, then they find an abcess on his liver, now they are saying his small intestines have ruptured...They have him on heavy duty antibiotics but he probably will need surgery.
Also just found out it went into his bloodstream.
I get really pissed when I think about how he has treated my parents but at the end of the day he is still my brother.

(and how he has treated you)
you're a good girl, Smoke.
we pray for them all.
there are portions of our prayerbooks that help us find the words to petition God on behalf of us all, especially those of us who are ill and frightened by death.
that we are inevitably frightened by death is very sad for us all, death being inevitable.

I hope its ok with Sue that I give an update on her brother.
As of this afternoon they are getting the CDC involved because he has a type of bacteria you only find in someone who has been out of the country or drank pond water. Scary stuff. Apparently he does not have a ruptured intestine.
I asked about his well water, Sue says they are all on the same vane so she assumed more would be sick. I am by no means an expert at all but I know we have to clean our well once a year, wondering if not cleaning it could cause that kind of bacteria to get into it? Like I said, I really have no clue, probably should learn more about how our well actually works.
Sue we will keep him in our prayers.

Thx Pam.
Never heard of "cleaning" a well. Dumping bleach down it I assume is what you mean. We don't do that.
He's in alot of pain yet. Drained out over 800cc's of gunk from his liver. They should find out in a day or 2 the type of bacteria it is.
Maybe it's all the Turkey Hill Ice Tea he has drank over the years.
Thx for the prayers

Yeah I think that is what Jack does Sue. He usually does it when the kids and I are gone so I really am not sure exactly what he does.
Really can't wait to see what they come up with.

we call it "shocking the well" here, and it means pouring a gallon of bleach into the well head, then running the water in the house just until you can smell the bleach. then close it all up for 12 to 24 to let the bleach work on the well and the pipes between the well and the house taps. after the 12 to 24 run the water until it runs without the bleach odor.
we do it once a year at least.
we always talk about having the water tested.
now we will.
good luck to your brother, Smoke.
i hope he gets well, and that his pain teaches him something about the pain other people suffer.

Thx Fish.
Just got back from seeing him this afternoon. He looks good for being in the hospital. He seemed happy to see me.
The did an upper gi and all looked good, they are supposed to do the lower tomorrow. still waiting on the results from the bacteria. So they really don'r know what's wrong with him yet.

So now they are saying the bacteria was some strain of strep. Infection seemes to ghave started in a heart valve...seems to go from one thing to another here. Still has the drain in his liver, they want to do an mri w/dye but he is having kidney issues so they have to wait for those to improve before they can do that. They are functioning but not the way they should be. I'm assuming since they identified the bacteria they have asjusted the antibiotics.
Still a wait and see game.

So finding out NOW..the kidneys were failing due to the dye he had with the first mri ath the first hospital and an upper gi at the second hospital! This is common but if it's common why don't they come up with a better dye to do these tests with.
Things are looking up though. They are saying he will need to be on an iv antibiotic for 6-8 weeks but he can do that at home. Just making sure Kidneys & liver are good to go.
Pam mentioned "Leaky Gut" almost sound logical but I'm sure being that they are Dr.s the will dismiss the idea of it being that.

I'm almost certain the nepherlogist had told my dad there was something else they could use. Unfortunately that was the first time he was hospitalized and I was with him 90% of the time so no one else remembers anything other than that I had told them there was an alternative. I know that's zero help.

that he is getting out of the hospital is very good news.
too many folks don't get out of the hospital for reasons that did not exist when they went into the hospital.

Well, Doug was home last night...back down to ER this morning...he still has a drain tube/bag from his liver...he went into the bathroom this morning and the tube got hung up on the doorknob and pulled out the tube! They tried to put it back in this afternoon but werent able to, he has to wait till tomorrow now to see what they are going to do.. Dad called and he doesn't have water!...not sure if it's a frozen pipe ( hoping thats it) or if the well pump went kaputz!...pump is only 45 years old! Interesting day today to say the least. Hope you are all doing well.
