two fishermen in an aluminum flat bottom square bowed fishing rigged 12 foot so open boat. Two engines, the one the small gas outboard (20?) to get from cove to cove, the other the electric to troll.
boat not designed for speed.
that said ...
i'm pulling easy down the lake.
here they come, running on the outboard, off my larboard stern...
they want to get past me cause I am going slow and they have places to go.
so i start to row.
and they open their engine, just kinda to keep up.
i start to row hard.
and i can hear them open the engine more.
now we are openly racing down the lake, both at full throttle.
so much for my 80% exertion rule.
what a wonderful few minutes !
i mention this, because rowing is powerlifting in practice.

the birds in the am are wonderful. geese actually argue about which way to get the flock out of here. large numbers rise from the water at the same time
the skein forms, and then breaks up, and smaller skeins form and birds fly from skein to skein. the whole time one can hear the lead bird calling with responses from other birds here and there.
it is really cool.

row
i get to the lake just at civil twilight, which is almost exactly 30 minutes before sunrise.
first take the oars down to the water.
then use a flashlight to confirm that there are no new roots or stones to trip on when i am carrying the boat to the water.
getting chilly out there.
one wants to stay in the bed when it is cold and dark.
i use different shirt layer combinations.
optic yellow cotton = 65 and over degrees.
optic yellow over thin long sleeve poly = 60 to 65
optic yellow over thick long sleeve cotton/poly = 55 to 60
optic yellow over thick over thin long sleeve 50 to 55
optic yellow over thick over 2 thin long sleeve 45 to 50
tomorrow may be yellow over double over double.
singing started today.

I concur... I didn’t want to get out from under the covers either. Raining here too..... I might as well wait till frost rather than try to mow.

row got out late as report said overcast with fog. usually this means wind comes up, but not today. looking at the woods along the shoreline portion with no camps (which is pretty extensive on this lake)
variation in color and texture are wonderful.
